Our faith calls us to practice radical hospitality, pursue justice, and live out God’s love in tangible ways—through vibrant worship, meaningful relationships, and compassionate service. Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, returning after a season away, or seeking a place where you truly belong, you are welcome here.

What we’re about…

At First United Methodist Church of Orange, our purpose is simple yet life-changing: to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We believe following Jesus means embodying love, justice, and compassion in every part of life. Rooted in the deep traditions of the United Methodist Church and guided by the Spirit, we are committed to creating a community where faith grows, questions are welcomed, diversity is celebrated, and lives are transformed. Together, we seek to join God in the work of healing and renewing our world—starting right here in Orange.

Practicing Inclusion…

The world is a divided place. Sadly, the church often feeds this spirit instead of putting us back together. First UMC of Orange is committed to doing better. One of the big issues of division in the church today is around the welcome, inclusion, and co-powerment of LGBTQ+ persons.

We want to be clear because a lot of churches aren’t.

We are a faith community where LGBTQ+ persons are welcomed, wanted, and empowered. First UMC of Orange is committed to the full inclusion, at all levels of involvement from worship to small groups to church leadership, of LGBTQ+ persons and all persons seeking to live life with God.

Our history…

For over 150 years, First United Methodist Church of Orange has been a place where faith and community meet in the heart of Old Towne Orange. Founded in 1873 by a group of pioneering Methodists, our congregation quickly became known as a gathering place for worship, learning, and service. While our historic sanctuary still echoes with the prayers of generations before us, our vision has always been forward-looking—seeking to follow Jesus into the needs and hopes of the present age.

Today, that vision calls us to be a progressive, inclusive community where all are welcomed and affirmed—regardless of age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or life circumstance. We believe that God’s love is for everyone, no exceptions. In worship, in service to our neighbors, and in our advocacy for justice, we strive to embody Christ’s radical hospitality.

Whether you are new to faith, returning after time away, or seeking a community that celebrates diversity and wrestles honestly with life’s big questions, we invite you to journey with us. At First UMC of Orange, you’ll find an open table, a listening ear, and a place to belong.
