UNITED METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
Our dynamic youth program has been an important part of the life-blood of our church for years. Our youth are active in learning more about God and their relationship with Jesus and each other. It is important for our youth to be integrated in the congregational life of our church as a whole. Our youth learn the values of being a disciple for Christ, for being upstanding young people and also about being in service to others. Ages 6th thru 12th grade are welcome! We meet weekly on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p to 8 pm. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter!
To be added to the email list for the youth newsletter, please email Sarah Fast ([email protected]).
SIERRA SERVICE PROJECT
Youth from FUMCO have an ongoing relationship with Sierra Service Project. SSP's mission statement is building faith and strengthening communities through service to others. Our youth group highly values mission, and we want to begin to build and establish a servant’s heart for mission in our teens lives. Our youth have been working with SSP since the summer of 2014. At SSP, our youth join with youth from other churches in service repairing and painting homes, worship, and in cultural learning. Our youth embark on a week long trip either in July or August of every summer.
Our mission project for the summer of 2016 was on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, WA.

Confirmation in the United Methodist Church is a sacred occasion. For some young people, confirmation represents a maturity of faith that allows the youth to claim the baptismal vows made by family on their behalf during infant baptism. For those not already baptized, confirmation includes the sacrament of baptism and the outpouring of God's love. During the confirmation service, young people claim their love of God through Jesus Christ in their life as they become members of the church. We believe that young people should know what they are saying in this ceremony, what it means to be a member of the church, and what it means to be a disciple and a growing Christian. Confirmation is designed for youth in the 6th grade and above.
Our desire is for every student to feel included in our Confirmation experience. FUMCO offers up Confirmation annually beginning each fall, where we have class meetings once a month (October thru May), and our youth are paired up with adult mentors that they meet for a total of 12 sessions. Confirmation culminates on the day of Pentecost, where our youth are then celebrated and confirmed in worship service. Please contact the church office for more information on confirmation.
Acolytes participate in the worship service to assist the pastor. Any young person from 5th grade through high school may participate in this ministry after completing training. If you would like to be a part of our next training class, please contact Sarah Fast and Katie Hicks at [email protected].
